Beginning in October, guests sailing on any Carnival ship will be prohibited from smoking on any stateroom balconies.
The new ban follows recent surveys and feedback, stating the majority of guests would prefer a smoke-free balcony environment. Carnival states the decision to ban balcony smoking comes as direct result of this guest feedback. While balcony smoking will be banned, the line states guests will still be able to smoke in designated areas on deck and throughout certain clubs and areas of the casino.
Carnival’s change in policy now aligns itself with the majority of other cruise lines, with the exception of Norwegian Cruise Line and Holland America Line, both of which continue to allow balcony smoking at the current time.
The ban will become effective beginning on October 9, 2014. Guests caught violating the new ban will be charged a $250 cleaning fee for their stateroom.
