Delivery Of AIDAprima Delayed Six Months

April 10, 2014 by Mike Faust

AIDA Cruise’s soon to be newest ship, the AIDAprima, will now be delivered six months later than originally scheduled.

The new prototype ship, AIDAprima, is currently under construction at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries located in Nagasaki, Japan. The yard recently confirmed the extended delay, citing required, additional construction time for the delay. The AIDAprima is a brand new design for the cruise industry and the largest cruise ship to be built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.

According to AIDA Cruises, the sailings scheduled between March and October 2015 have been cancelled to accommodate the delay. AIDA Cruises has contacted affected guests and has reportedly offered a number of alternative sailings.

In addition, the ship’s original maiden sailing between Yokohama and Hamburg has been shortened to a 50 day sailing between Yokohama and Dubai. Once the AIDAprima arrives in Dubai on November 20, 2015, she will remain in the port, offering weekly Arabian Gulf sailing until March 2016. After her season in Dubai, the AIDAprima will sail a 38 day repositioning cruise between Dubai and Hamburg. The AIDAprima is expected to arrive in Hamburg on April 30, 2016, where she will begin her originally scheduled year round sailings to Northern Europe a year later than planned. Any guest booked on an affected sailing will or has been contacted by AIDA and will be able to book an alternative sailing.

AIDAprima is a new, prototype ship for the cruise industry. She is expected to debut a number of new design elements, including public rooms designed around the four elements, expanded verandah staterooms, new stateroom layouts, new restaurants, and a number of recreational activities and amenities.
