#MikeTheViking is back and ready to sail the rivers of Europe!
A Little Background
Viking River is the world’s largest river cruise line, sailing on numerous rivers throughout Europe, Asia, Russia, and even Egypt. While I have sailed with Viking Ocean in the past aboard Viking Star, I’ve yet to experience what many consider the world’s premier river cruise line. For two weeks, I’ll be with Viking aboard the Viking Lif, one of many longships Viking has plying the rivers of Europe, visiting 4 countries and partaking in unique cultural and historical experiences in each port. As a history and travel buff, I really appreciate the emphasis Viking puts on experiencing different cultures, learning the history of each port, and partaking in local traditions. I’m truly excited to experience this sailing and to share the Viking River experience with you.
Where I’ll Go
On April 28, coincidentally my 20th birthday, Viking Lif will set sail from central Amsterdam on Viking’s Grand European Tour, heading south on the Rhine, Main, and Danube throughout the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, and finally Hungary. Along the way, I’ll visit a number of prominent cities including Cologne, Nuremburg, Regensburg (Munich), Vienna, and Budapest. Among these major cities are a number of smaller European cities, each with their own charm and history waiting to be discovered.
What I’m Looking Forward To & What To Look Out For
Nuremburg: If there is one time in history that fascinates me the most, it’s World War II. While in Nuremburg, I’ll have the chance to explore the city that saw the rise of the Third Reich and ultimately the punishment of some of WWII’s most notorious war criminals. Look out for a special article on Nuremburg and photos acro
