Norwegian Breakaway Delayed By Maintenance Issue

Norwegian’s Norwegian Breakaway, which is celebrating its first birthday this week, experienced a minor delay this morning following a maintenance issue with one of the ship’s propulsion units.

The ship, which began to experience the propulsion issues after entering New York Harbor, had contacted the United States Coast Guard for tug assistance early this morning. Shortly after, the USCG has submitted a tug assist plan and dispatched the tugs to begin towing the ship into her pier. Once the tides had shifted, the tugs began towing the Norwegian Breakaway to her pier.

The Norwegian Breakaway was originally scheduled to be alongside at her assigned pier by 7:00am, but did not reach her berth until approximately 10:00am. Due to this delay, Norwegian Cruise Line has delayed the next sailing’s departure until 5:00pm, asking guests not to arrive at the terminal until at least 2:00pm.

Norwegian Cruise Line states they do not believe the maintenance issue will affect the ship’s upcoming seven night Bermuda sailing.
