This float out of the 4,000-passenger ship marks the first time a ship built here has exited bow first, thus immediately revealing her impressive Peter Max-designed bow art under the overcast sky. The 146,000-ton vessel is also the largest ship ever constructed in Germany.

“Norwegian Breakaway represents a significant achievement both for Meyer Werft and Norwegian Cruise Line in terms of innovation and design,” said Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian Cruise Line’s CEO. “Celebrating her float out today brings us closer to her much-anticipated delivery on April 25 when she will make her debut in Europe before arriving in her homeport of New York City on May 7. We can’t wait.”

Finishing of the vessel is now underway, and crew members will begin embarking on March 4 to familiarize themselves with the new ship and begin preparations for her first guests. Norwegian Breakaway’s conveyance down the river Ems to the ocean is scheduled on March 10th with final delivery to the cruise line expected in 58 days time.
