Silversea Expeditions to Welcome Silver Cloud to Fleet

Silversea Expeditions is set to expand its fleet with the addition of one of Silversea Cruises’ existing luxury liners – the Silver Cloud (rendered in expedition livery above) – to the adventure fleet in November 2017. The current 296-guest ship will sail for mostly polar regions after a refurbishment scheduled for August 2017.

The Silver Cloud, which first launched Silversea Cruises, will next be converted into an ice-class ship that will then accommodate 260 passengers in non-arctic waters. The guest capacity will be restricted to 200 when cruising Arctic and Antarctic itineraries according to sustainable tourism guidelines.

Enzo Visone, Silversea’s CEO, said, “Silver Explorer‘s polar expedition cruises have proven hugely popular with our guests. By converting Silver Cloud into an ice-class ship for our expedition fleet, we will be better positioned to meet the increasing demand for comfortable adventure travel, particularly to the Arctic and Antarctica, places that are best explored by small ships specially equipped with ice-strengthened hulls.”

The Silver Cloud will be the only luxury ice-class expedition vessel with five dining options including the Relais & Châteaux® restaurant and feature the highest passenger space and staff-to-guest ratios (almost one t0 one) within the ship category. Regarding the expedition team, there will be one such staff member guiding no more that a dozen guests each on average. What’s more, the ship will receive a fleet of 18 pontoon boats to facilitate excursions.
