Ultra-luxury line Silversea recently released its 2018 sailing schedule, and there’s a lot to like. Not only does the 2018 schedule see the inclusion of the new Silver Cloud, which will by then have been converted into an ice-strengthened expedition ship, but the 2018 sailing calendar also sees the first foray into the Pacific Ocean for Silver Explorer and Silver Spirit’s first season of “safari cruises” in South Africa.
In focusing on destination as the primary imperative for the 2018 season, Silversea’s fleet of classic luxury and luxury expedition cruise ships will sail to nearly 1000 ports of call, with 300 ports being new to the line. Silversea’s ships will call on 130 countries in 2018, and visit countless UNESCO World Heritage sites.
“At Silversea, we don’t believe that ‘bigger is better’, in fact we believe and deliver the complete opposite. A belief perfectly illustrated by our commitment to smaller, more intimate ships that clearly respond to the desires of our guests that tend to favour a refined and understated elegance,” said Roberto Martinoli, Silversea’s newly-appointed CEO.
First, let’s get the news I’m most excited about out of the way: Silversea will be sending its trendsetting expedition ship, Silver Explorer, to the Pacific Ocean for the first time in her career. This lets her do some very cool runs in 2018, including an 11-day expedition through the Pacific Northwest from San Diego to Vancouver (Voyage 7809); a 14-day sailing from Callao (Lima) to Fuerte Amador (Panama City) (Voyage 7806); and an incredible Alaskan expedition from Seward to Vancouver on August 25, 2018 (Voyage 7818).
Silversea is even sending Silver Explorer on a river cruise of sorts. On September 6, 2018, she sails from Vancouver, BC to Portland, Oregon by way of the Pacific Ocean and the Columbia River. Ports of call on this one (Voyage 7819) include Friday Harbor; Lopez Island; Olympia, Washington; Port Angeles, Washington; Astoria, Oregon; Rainier, Oregon; Hood River, Oregon; and Stevenson, Washington.
